My passion for drawing and painting began in early childhood but more precisely and earnestly some 25 years ago. My Philosophy: I paint for people of all ages and I am content that, ultimately, I paint for the young at heart. I believe there is a quiet beauty in all creation and that art\'s greatest purpose is to uplift the heart and mind of its viewers. Since the eyes are windows to the soul, I endeavor to capture this beauty in my paintings. I have developed my own distinct style of imagery, evident in paintings such as Almost Heaven, Sunset Serenade, Rhapsody, Song of the Sea, Lost in Heaven, With a Song in my Heart. In paintings such as these, I wish to portray an artistic style of realism with strong hints of the whimsical as well. Having spent my life on the Canadian prairies and for years having lived near enough to have a view of the majestic Rocky Mountains has inspired the mountain scenes I paint. In the prairie scenes, my desire is to portray a more gentle, less hectic era, yet a splendidly festive time with themes of horse drawn wagons and sleighs against lavender skies. Vacation time for me for years usually meant trips to the Pacific ocean coastlines and sometimes to the islands of Hawaii. From the first visit, I was mesmerized by the sounds of crashing waves with a luminescent glow of sunlight cascading through them. I was mesmerized by a setting sun casting its radiant path upon the water. These memories have been an inspiration for my seascape and sandy shore creations in oils and acrylics. In most prairie and seascape paintings, I add a light \'sprinkling\' of birds in the distance to help my skies come to life (and to accentuate the movement of the waves in ocean paintings).
My watercolors include horses in emerald meadows against a backdrop of the Rockies, as well as various flower arrangements and children at play. I have sold greeting cards taken from such paintings. I love also to write poetry, and have created books (A Collection of Prairie and Sea) with photos of my artwork along with poetry and short stories explaining my inspiration for each painting. I have worked mostly with acrylics, oils, watercolors and pencils.
